Hi Mesa,

Yes, to all this. There are moments when I think I should be doing so much more. And yet, you're right. Creating is one of the highest forms of dissent. It's the Creatives who remind the world about what matters; it's Creatives who document through art and storytelling.

For the most part, writing is my form of quiet resistance, too. Let's keep creating. Let's keep writing. Good luck with your memoir.

I use my voice to teach the past and what we're doing now that imitates the worst of that past. I use my voice to bring clarity to the what the media are failing to discuss because they fear loss of profits and large lawsuit expenditures.

My father worked with the Dutch Resistance during the Nazi occupation of Holland. He hid my mother but was unable to protect her grandfather, parents, sister who were murdered in Auschwitz. He taught us that democracy and the freedoms they provide, is the only way to live. That's why we emigrated to the US after WWII.

And he and my mother are turning over in their graves knowing what the "majority" of voters put into office with the help of manipulated voting machines, discriminatory voting legislation, threats against minority voting districts closing polling places.

We MUST speak out en masses to thwart the efforts of this illegitimate president and I pray that he doesn't turn the military against the people as he's attempting in LA.

Mesa—

You name it clearly: I do not want that legacy either. And I know this—rejecting it does not dissolve it. What lives in the body, what is carried through families, does not vanish through refusal alone. I stand as the one who takes this work on. I meet what was given, and I shape what moves forward. That is the choice.

When your husband asked what good it does to speak, I know that question too. Speaking is never empty. It opens space. Sometimes another person steps through that space and acts. Sometimes it plants something we will never see. I will keep speaking, because silence would mean leaving that ground empty.

You say you lead with love. I do the same—not as sentiment, rather as clear choice in a time that teaches disconnection. And I stand with you here: writing is resistance. Creating shapes life into something that remains, and that matters.

You will tell your story. And I will keep shaping mine too. That is how we stand in this time, with presence and with choice.

With presence and choice - there’s so much power in that!! May we keep going and choosing that which is needed over and over again.
