Mesa!!!!! What a beautiful tribute to MAGIC in all its forms! I love you dearly, and I meant what I said about you being the heart of the Lovelet Community. What a joy it was to meet at last! Keep lighting it up, and big hugs! ❤️
LIZ!! I love you 😭♥️ thank you and I'm so happy to be part of the Lovelets, it's a sacred space to me. Hooray for magic and friendship and love 😍 Big hugs back!!
Dear Mesa ~ I am a Lovelet and have had the privilege of reading your letters from Love. Your story resonated with me as I took a leap of faith and bought (a solo) ticket to Liz and Martha Beck's upcoming Workshop on Creativity & Healing in Toronto. I am not a writer or a creative but it's Liz so there are no expectations or pressure just light. Thank you Mesa for affirming that an event with Liz will be filled with love & healing & living. 💜
Is it any wonder you and Liz met like old friends during a full moon 🌝 at the sea? 🌊 I dare say this is magic, Wonder Word Weaver! So happy this happened for you both, Mesa. Thank you for sharing the Letters From Love Reunion Tour! PS the image of the shoe film and filmmaker is hilarious. As long as I’ve known you it just makes sense there would be delight and laughter. Keep writing and painting! 💖✨♥️💫
Wow Mesa! I just was transported back to a magical time in my life when I lived in Ocean Beach and neighboring Point Loma. It was so long ago, mid 80s and I was in my early 20s. I grew up in San Diego and ended up in Ocean Beach when I left home and moved to my own apartment. That time, that place, so much then was pure magic! Thank you for bringing it back to me with your pictures and story of your time there.
My heart feels warm reading this. My favourite line: “She said something that i’ll keep in my heart forever.” So happy for you to have this special experience and friendship.
Mesa, this is pure joy. The way you capture magic—not as something elusive, but as something we meet when we let go and step fully into the moment—is exactly how I’ve come to experience it, too.
That reunion with Liz, the knowing before believing, the way the universe nudges when we’re open to it—all of it sings. And I love how you honor the role of choice in creating magic. It’s not just luck; it’s listening, moving toward what calls us, and allowing ourselves to be astonished.
You didn’t just witness magic—you made it. And that’s the most powerful part.
I'm not yet a Lovelet, but I plan to be soon! Lizzy's book "Big Magic" is the next book I'll read after finishing "Practical Magic" for Evelyn Skye's book club gathering on October 27th. Sad I missed chatting about it with all of you. But...I'm sure the timing is just right for me. 🎃
I've been blessed to have my life brightened by many Magical moments! They have been bright enough to make the shadows of the darker times fall behind me (Thx, Walt Whitman & Rihanna). ✨️
Many Magical moments over the past 20 years have involved my son...so many wonderful years of home-schooling with him. One that comes to mind was a belly dance performance he gave with a friend at a fundraiser for breast cancer research ("(Bellies for Breasts"), when they were both around 10. They danced to "Istanbul not Constsntinople" by They Might Be Giants. I started videotaping them, but then stopped , put my phone down and fully immersed myself enjoying their dancing. Their choreography was fabulous and the energy of their performance was quite moving. It was truly Magic watching them! 🎉
Thank you for reminding me of magic I experienced multiple times in CA where like you, I was gifted with delightfully soul connections like shells on the beach.
I posted my pics on that night just now with my friend if you want to take a peek. 😂 My friend said she feels so bad now that we didn’t take you more under our wing if it was you. We Introverts are often the worst sometimes in bridging the gap in unknown potentially uncomfortable social situations but we need to go to these kind of events and look for opportunities to grab hold of one another and join forces. And realize we are all potentially journeying together 😌
Hi, Mesa! Just found this like the others and I remember that night. I was there with a friend. And I remember waiting outside the venue, nobody was really there yet and being kinda confused and I remember talking very briefly with someone. My friend and I did not have VIP passes so eventually went and busied ourselves and I think we did go inside and… I guess what I am saying is, maybe you wrote about my friend and I, maybe, and how funny if it was us, and how funny if I found this very lovely writing and remembrance of this very magical evening with Liz at the Balboa Theater🥰. I’m truly not saying it was, but with all the magic going on…maybe it was🤷♀️😂 You don’t have to confirm or deny it it’s just nice to think what a small world it is when like minded people meet on line and then actually get to meet in person 🤩
Hi Danielle!! Yay for the Big Magic that is in place here!! I didn't catch the names of the women who took pity on me, but if it was you- THANK YOU!!! 😍😍😍
This world is so small sometimes ❤️❤️❤️ So glad you found me!!
Yessss!!!! Magic is ✨real✨ You captured those little in between moments so well, especially the OB vibe (we were just there on Tuesday) capturing the magic that the ocean brings 🥰 I bought a ticket to Liz’s event that she’s doing with Martha Beck in October…in freaking Toronto! 🤷🏽♀️ I still have to figure out all the logistics but that inner creative urge told me I just have to do everything I can to get myself there. And the rest is up to….whatever magical force is bringing all of us together. Thank you for being such a strong pulse of the Lovelet community, it always makes me feel like we would all stand with each other in those awkward “alone” moments 💕
You met Lizzie! How wonderful. I am honored to know you as the heart of the Lovelet community I cherish so much. These photos put a smile on my face. Loved all your gushing about that moment. I would be gushing, too. And I love your pledge to make 2024 the year to do things that light you up. I'm down with that, too, in this year I've been having too--of grief and loss but possibility, too.
Thanks so much for being here Amy!! I’m so happy to inhabit this love filled space with you :) Amidst the grief it’s still possible for the possibility of magic. That’s one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my life. <3
This post is just full of magical coincidences for me! I used to live in Ocean Beach... only a block away from your hotel on the beach in a tiny little studio that I basically found through magic. That feels like lifetimes ago now, and I've been in a super nostalgic mood today, so I really appreciate you bringing me back there.
And last night, my little Substack community had an event where we were exploring the question: WHAT IS MAGIC? Everybody agreed that it was a feeling. As somebody who has geeked out on the mechanics of magic for ages, I found that somewhat surprising (though it makes total sense)... but also really awesome and exciting. Imagine my surprise to come across this line today: "The feeling of magic is not anything my rational mind can grasp and even though I’ve tried a hundred different ways to explain it- I can't. I just know it when I’m in it." 👏
Love that you got to share such a special moment with Liz Gilbert!
Well holy magical coincidences!! I just got goosebumps!! So glad I could take you back in time, but also thank you for sharing your experience with me too!! I love little synchronicities like this!! 🤩🤩🤩
