A picture of summer..
Lemon yellow takes me back to a simpler time when I would spend summers with my grandma in Marin. She had lemon trees in her front yard and every morning I would pick as many as I could reach and throughout the day I’d eat slices sprinkled with sugar.
I’m waxing nostalgic I know, but for the briefest moment my head is in the cloudy yellow past. My heart is filled with joy at remembering such a small and sunny moment.
Yellow summers also remind me of random sidewalk sunflowers. Spontaneously found in the middle of the neighborhood of one of my best friends who decided to wake me up at ten o’clock on a sticky summer night just to take a walk with me and show me the treasure of the wild sunflower. It didn’t matter that it was still 100 degrees outside, there was beauty to be found in the summer night.
Yellow brings me home to myself in a way that only sunshine and the handmade toy box my dad painted for me can do. It’s the color of my happy, a riot of my senses- sweet enough to taste, blindingly bright, feels as smooth as butter, smells like sunshine and rain soaked sidewalks after a monsoon filled day, and sounds like delight filled laughter after making a magical discovery.
It’s never been my favorite color, but it’s the one that’s left the longest lasting impact 💛
What makes you dream of summer dear reader friends? It’s not my most favorite season, but there’s something about it that sneaks up on me every year and I find myself seeing it differently. What a beautiful homage to summer! And interestingly yellow is associated with the sacral chakra which is where confidence and personal power are situated! Perhaps your resonance with yellow allows you to tap into that for yourself! ❤️
No better color to represent the complexities of summer than yellow! The sun, sunflowers, warmth, joy, nostalgia…if not yellow then what else?
