Scars of My Choosing

Poetry in 100 words

My bones are weary

So I covered my body in art 

To show 

Instead of tell

The things I cannot name

Each piece picked deliberately for its vibrancy

Each pinprick filled with ink through layers of skin

To remind myself 

I am visible 

I’m guarded by the dragons and fairies 

The fairytales made real

But only when the light hits just so

I’m bound and unbound 

Two things at once

I am the scars of my own choosing 

Words borrowed from the wind

They burrowed into the marrow Of my entire being 

Rooting me to myself 

Finally 

Setting me free
